Rowing into harbour & Being launched backwards around 1900
Rowing out to a rescue and inward bound later
The Elizabeth Simpson was launched backwards and we do not know why, but in order to do so the crew had to secure the tiller /(rudder).
Once they did not secure the rudder properly and so it was ripped off, that was when the old wooden rudder was replaced with a steel rudder around 1920's
Very much as she is now awaiting restoration?
